Rudbeckia laciniata (Cutleaf Coneflower) is a rhizomatous perennial boasting bright yellow flowers from mid-summer to mid-fall. Very tall, this late flowering Coneflower features large daisy blossoms, 3-4 in. across (7-10 cm), with broad, drooping, glowing golden petals surrounding a prominent pale green conical center that turns brown as it matures. Attractive to butterflies and pollinating insects, the blossoms rise atop wiry stems above the deeply-divided foliage of light green leaves. Its attractive seedheads further extend its season of interest and will be visited in the fall and winter by birds that will feast on them. Cutleaf Coneflower spreads rampantly by underground rhizomes and is only appropriate for large landscapes.
