You can't beat Portulaca if you are looking for a colorful, low growing plant or temporary ground cover. Brilliant, glossy flowers about 1 in./3 cm. across will form a carpet of color over attractive, spreading plants. This easy to grow plant is excellent in hot, dry, sunny spots and is often grown in rock gardens, walls, hanging baskets, between steppingstones and as edging.
